The procedure for allocation of IPv6 Addresses has only recently been specified [rfc2450].
Like in the IPv4 case, the TEN-155 network would provide two services:
Connectivity between the NRNs
General IP connectivity to subset of NRNs
Another service that DANTE could offer is to act as backup provider to NRNs. As a minimal requirement each NRN should be assigned a unique NLA, DANTE should try to apply for a Sub-TLA. With the currently proposed assignment rules it is unlikely that 19 bits of NLA space will be assigned, but the minimal requirements must at least be possible within the assigned NLA bits. General address assignment issues will be examined as part of the tests.
The IPv6 testing group has been assigned the 3ffe:8030::/28 for the
experiments. The overall addressing herachy are defined as follows:
| Bits | 28 | 6 | 14 | 16 | 64 |
| Field | pTLA | NLA | SLA | SubSLA | Interface ID |
Each participant will be allocated an unique NLA, thus a participant
will receive a /34 prefix. Assignment plan for a /34 are in basic
up to the participant, but it is requested that the overall addressing
herachy is used and that allocations follow the procedure described in
"A
method for flexible IPv6 address assignments".
With the given pTLA the NLA cannot be expanded to the left. Therefor
the NLA's are assigned beginning from the left. This allows the SLA to
expand in both directions. With the first NLA assigned to the Backbone
and the following to the participants, the address assignment looks like
this:
