Other EU IPv6 Projects

A potential goal for IPv6 deployment under GÉANT is to facilitate IPv6 connectivity for European research projects, whether funded directly by the Commission or otherwise.

Projects believed to be studying IPv6 within the EU include:

  • 6INIT - five-cluster IPv6 deployment with applications.

  • 6WINIT - majoring on medical applications.

  • Armstrong - a Eurescom IPv6 deployment project.

  • Bermuda 2 - UKERNA/JISC IPv6 deployment study, featuring Southampton, UCL and Lancaster Universities.

  • BRAIN - broadband radio access for IP-based networks, seamless handover between heterogenous wireless nets.

  • BT - BT's IPv6 initiatives.

  • COIAS - convergence of Internet, ATM and satellite.

  • DRIVE - cellular/broadcast interworking at IP level.

  • GCAP - global communication architecture and protocol over IPv6 networks.

  • JOIN - an IPv6 deployment initiative within the DFN, Germany.

  • LONG - Laboratories Over Next Generation networks.

  • Moby Dick - mobility and differentiated services in a future IP network. An evaluation of IPv6-based micromobility on wireless nets.

  • NGNI - Next Generation Networks Initiative - a concertation project.

  • SEQUIN - end-to-end approach to quality of service.

  • SUITED - IPv6 over the EuroSkyways satellite.

  • WINE - wireless internet networks, engineering a wireless-friendly TCP/IP stack.

  • WINE GLASS - IP in support of mobility for UMTS-WLANs.

The ISTweb has a list of CPA6 network projects, many of which include IPv6. CPA6 is the funding area for Next Generation Networks.
